Jason says:

You keep fantastic mileage records—accurate to the thousandth! :) I look forward to seeing how you progress.

Jason, Everyone at my house thinks I'm crazy (I know that I am) but I will admit that I am anal about my cars. I keep them nicely detailed, do my own maintenance and keep fairly accurate records. :) I still need to back up and edit the tanks for the price, brand of gas and other notes though (yes I have every receipt for each gallon that has been put in the car). I will try to get it caught up this weekend if I have the time. If someone had told me 3 years ago that I could own a car with this amount of room and amenities that would average over 40 mpg, I would have called them a fool. To say that I have been impressed with the capabilities of this vehicle is an understatement. I have told others that driving this car is like playing a video game. It’s a lot of fun and you learn something new every day.

FastMover says:

What kind of work do you do that results is such widely varying FE from tank to tank. Your graph and mine are both high miles, but differ greatly in the FE consistency. My commute is a constant 64 mile daily round trip that I drive using a trip profile, and about the only variables are my weekend travel and the weather.

jdenenberg says:

If you think that his MPG varies significantly, chec my 2004 Prius "MakesMeLookSmart". The "fills" in a Prius are highly variable due to the gas tank "bladder".

Fastmover, Most of my commutes are just back and forth to the office. There are times though when a customer calls, tells me to get on a flight to a jobsite and I have to hump it to make the flight. Those cost me mileage. They don't want to hear "I missed the flight trying to keep my mileage up". The other bad runs are some long trips when I'm tired and just want to get home. The speed goes up, mileage goes down but I get to sleep in my bed that night.

Notes: Tank 75. Colder weather and long fast trips are starting to hurt mileage
October 16, 2009 638 15.211 41.9
Notes: Tank 74 Bad mileage this tank. Had a run to Nashville and back in the rain at too high a speed and the rest of the tank was in the rain. Needed the rain but not the lowered mileage
October 3, 2009 673 14.619 46.0
Notes: Tank 73 Short fill before trip to Nashville. Nice temps and a good average for this tank
September 22, 2009 738 15.974 46.2

Notes: Tank 67. Short tank as I filled up before another trip to KY
July 15, 2009 652 15.737 41.4
Notes: Tank 66. Too many fast runs on the interstate hurt this tank not to mention the AC use.

Notes: Tank 65 and another trip to KY
June 30, 2009 705 15.973 44.1
Notes: Tank 64. Mostly std commute to work. The weather is getting hotter and the AC is on all of the evening commutes and a lot of the morning ones. The new tires continue to impress as the mileage is still doing great considering the AC use. Another 700+ tank although getting that many miles is not a challenge any more as.this car makes it easy to do after break in.
June 17, 2009 702 16.052 43.7
Notes: Tank 63. New tires put on at aprox 100 miles into the tank. Michelin Energy Saver A/S. One 250 mile round trip to Atlanta running 70 to 80 mph and the rest back and forth to work. Not bad mileage on new tires and another 700+ tank
June 8, 2009 706 15.733 44.9

Notes: Tank 59. Nice weather and a good run. This makes 4 in a row at 700 miles+.
May 3, 2009 734 16.034 45.8
Notes: From Columbia to Greenville, back to Columbia, Augusta, Atlanta and home to Chattanooga. I found some non-ethanol gas in Columbia (Mobil) that works a LOT better than the crap I normally get in that area. The THIRD 700+ mile tank in a row
April 30, 2009 709 15.823 44.8
Notes: Tank 57. Some regular commute and ending with a trip from Chatt. to Atlanta, Greenville and Columbia. Two 700+ tanks in a row.
April 24, 2009 719 15.826 45.4
Notes: Tank 56. Perfect conditions and my second 700+ mile tank. It helps when there are no passengers wanting to "go faster".
April 14, 2009 617 15.533 39.7
Notes: Tank 55 What wasn't very cold was very rainy. This was not a good tank
