Is there a good use for the EV mode? I bought a 2010 Prius two weekends ago. I originally thought that the EV mode is useless since the gas engine will be used to charge the battery back up. Recently I wondered if it might work for a sub 1 mile trip to a local pizza place. (I know I should walk or ride my bike but at night and in bad weather I'd rather not.)

A mile is a bit long as you would be stressing the HV battery more than it deserves. Besides, you only recover a percentage of the energy used to charge the battery.

The best use of EV mode is backing out of your garage to get the mower out or (in my case) moving the Prius from parking lot to parking lot on campus between classes.
