Automotive Stocks
I believe 2 years from today we will be wishing we had the foresight to buy some automotive stock while they were at these lows. Some might be risky (GM?) and others (tier1 and 2 suppliers) may go through consolidations, but there will be opportunities to recoup some of the losses most of us have taken over the last 2 years.

Now if I just knew where to find a few nickles.

A person with a few extra $ to gamble would have already more than doubled their money with Ford over the last 2 months!

I picked up a bunch of Ford a few months ago. Now, if they stay up where they have right now, I've increased my cash by 2.5x. I bought around 2.60. In my opinion, Ford is the best bet.

My "play" money is in my 301k so I took a close look in February after learning they were closing out the Money Market fund. So I 'shuffled the rubble.'

I only get to choose between funds so I put a big bet on the Asian fund that includes the Japanese car makers. I was surprised to find one of my solid performers, which I thought was based on mortgages and real estate, has an investment strategy of "derivatives." Yet that same fund had been one of the few that was 'less bad' than the others. However, my choices are driven by product, not past performance.

It gets tough picking what to invest in under a 401k with mostly funds. The company I work for has close to a hundred you can choose from and there is a lot of information out there to help you decided. Now if only I could put away 20%+ of my salary I'd be able to retire before 70.

I read that Ford is now on the buy list. I bought some when it was below $2.00 with money I was willing to lose.
Now it is over $5.00 and can't decide whether to take the short term gain or hold. As Ford might soon be THE American Car Co, I'm thinking it will keep going up.

That's a very good question. I have been considering short selling it myself. I guess, the question is, will it drop again? After all, this is a true emotional situation because Ford jumped from $3 to $5 when then announced their earnings. The ironic thing is, they still lost over a billion last quarter. No company can continue to lose that much money and survive. The only thing that could that is the government but they just print more! (sigh)

Ford is $6 now. How high will it go if it makes a profit? Which I think it will when we finally hit an upswing in the economy.
A lot of people are holding back on buying new cars til they are certain of their future.

I take no joy in the bankruptcy of GM and Chrysler. By the same token, I have no sympathy for board of directors and former management who worked so hard to make it happen.

Just remember, in the words of Jim Cramer, "pigs get slaughtered." I plan to take some profit and get my money off the table. I'll leave the houses money and ride it out. I've had a good run from 2.60/share.
