| IIHS forgiven but not forgotten WIthin six months, the fall of 2009, the IIHS 'moved the goal posts' and changed their vehicle testing standard. This was OK but then they went out of their way to tout that 'Toyota fell off their list.' I didn't mind improving a safety testing standard but they went out of their way to embarress Toyota who had just released the new model Prius . . . that I had bought in May as a gift for my wife. So now it is two years later and guess who has the largest number of IIHS safety approved models . . . Toyota: http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-505145_1...s-on-the-list/
Toyota Motor North America got the most top picks, with 15 of its Toyota, Lexus and Scion models. That includes a top pick rating for the first time for the redesigned 2012 Camry. The Camry also got a 5-star rating in tests by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration -- more difficult now that those tests have been toughened for 2012 models.
This rank hypocrisy of the IIHS 2009 press release brings a lingering odeur to their other claims. One should always be skeptical but doubly so when deliberate and malicious bias has been so crudely displayed.Bob Wilson Last edited by bwilson4web; Thu, Dec 15th, 2011 at 04:11 pm. |
