Somewhere in GH last year I read a thing from Toyota to its dealers discouraging overlaid mats. They recommended replacing the carpet ones with winter all weathre mats if a plastic or rubber mat was desired. I ordered the Toyota rubber ones and do a seasonal switch. Both are customized for the Camry and look OK. The Toyota rubber mats come with replacement hooks that are slightly longer. They work OK for the carpet mats as well.

RFB,

Thanks for going to the trouble of making this post.

This is the kind of advice that could save someone's life.

When I bought my overlay mats with the clips,it was well after the flap over the overlay mats and the "mat on the pedal" acceleration disasters and after Toyota's response of pulling the original overlay mats off of the market. I naively assumed that the new Toyota mats with clips were Toyota's solution to the problem.

If my planned solution does not work, I will take your advice. To paraphrase Smokey the Bear, the life we save may be my own, or my wife's

As far as the car being left on by mistake....this happened to me. I came in the house and thought I had shut it off. I always leave my keys in the center so that I can find them in the morning. Came in and was going about my evening when I noticed my dog barking at my garage door. I live in a bi-level and was in the downstairs livingroom...same level as the garage. She kept on with the barking and I knew something was up. I opened the door and the garage was full of car exhaust and the car was running. My bedroom is directly above the garage and it could have been a real disaster if my little puppy hadn't saved me!
I now take my keys in everynight. The alarm beeps if the car is on and I shut the door so that helps a bit.
I wish I could do something to ensure that never happens again.

I believe that is normal. Does it sound like there is a clicking as well? Sort of like a "bbzzzzzzzzz cluck/click cluck/click hmmmmmm." Ok that was horrible...but you might get my point. It is coming from the passenger side? It probably also does it when you shut off the car as well. Also, when you start the car, just before it starts the ICE you will hear a sound. That's the electric motor spinning up the ICE.

Basically, this car makes all sorts of noises both when you start and stop.
Nice sound effects but it sounds to me like it is coming from the button that circulates the air inside the car. If I turn the car on and that button is not pressed then it does not make the noise. The second I hit the "auto" button or the circulate air button it makes this errrrrr sound but starts at a low pitch and goes a bit higher ( i'm not even going to try to make that sound )

I take it in soon for the next oil change and ask them about it....the thing that is odd is the fact that it didn't do it for the first 6 months that I owned the car.

I just had my one year anniversary last month with my TCH

I get the buzzing clicking sound a lot. I think it's totally normal.

As for leaving the car on I think I read in the manual that you are discouraged from leaving the keys close to the car as it senses their presence and keeps some things ready as it does when you approach it. I have noticed many times that when I walk into the garage with the keys in my pocket that the car turns something on.
What I do sometimes when I turn it off is to make sure the red LED is blinking. Then I know the car is off for sure. If you leave it on and walk away with the keys it will beep to tell you that it is still on.
