CALCULATOR: How Long Until a Hybrid Vehicle Pays for Itself?
How long to recover the cost of purchase for a hybrid? This calculator came pretty close in my case. Replacing my old Tundra with the TCH came in at 3 years and 5 months. Based on my current and very detailed records over two years, 2 months and 13 days, the actual breakout day will be at 3 years, 4 months and 6 days at current trends. That gives me over 50% of the life of the car to rack up the savings <grins>.

[Considered costs: Cost of acquisition adjusted to a monthly cost on SL amortization over seven year service life (balance of unamortized life for Tundra), Insurance, fuel & service based on mileage (cost per mile), maintenance, tires, Battery Reserve based on eight years (TCH), TCH Hybrid Rebate and registration/licensing differences.]
