I just bought a AE scanner and I have SW version 10. I will; try connecting it to my NHW11 this weekend.; I need to try and get some basic battery info anyway to see how much time I have before running into real issues. I have all the cells but even with 2 MRC Superbrain 989s it will still take me a while to set them all up for a swap (and right now I'm still trying to figure out how to set the 989s up and what is concidered a good reading/setup for cycling them).

I'll let you know soon if the AutoEngenuity with V10 SW can work with the 2003 Prius. I will also let you know if it can do what I need it to like turning on ("test mode") the brake and inverter pumps so I can do things like brake bleeds and inverter coolant changes.

It's alive!
Well, thought I'd close out this page with the end result of trying to get this 2003 Prius running after almost 5 years. First road block was the AE software not being able to read codes. This was verified by a local shop, and by myself after purchasing a subscription to Techstream.
After getting Techstream running, I got codes and found the inverter bad. This was replaced, and for the first time since I owned it, the engine turned over. I was pretty happy until I found that it would crank for 10 seconds and shut down with more DTCs that had to be cleared before it would crank again. This went on and on through checking ignition, cleaning the injectors, compression check, etc. The only thing seemingly wrong was low MAF sensor number.
As luck would have it I pulled the fuel rail and injectors to crank the engine and found that the intake manifold was cracked in 4 places hidden by the injector rail. This was no doubt part of the collision damage.

The short story is that a Gen 1 Prius will crank, but not start with a vacuum leak.

That is strange. I would have thought that a "lean bank 1" would have been thrown in addition to the MAF reading low. The fuel trim should have been off also. Never can tell with these ECU's though as the engine never ran long enough to set the other codes.

Glad to see you got it running though!

My friend has really similar problems with his Prius so he decided to use it as a Spare Parts Car so right now he has one Prius which is actually used everyday and second one to take some parts from it and use in new one when it will broke or something.
