New Mini Scanner production run for Gen 1 Prius
FYI, a movement is afoot to get Graham Davies to produce more Mini Scanners for Gen I. The community at large has until July 15th to make 50 firm commitments to buy. See

Thanks for the announcement. I've been in e-mail contact with Graham and Don but haven't decided on whether or not I'll throw in on the deal. I've asked for clarification on the deposit and purchase price and not gotten a clear answer. If the $100 deposit discounts the $229 sale price, it is a good deal. But if the deposit means the sale price is available as an add on, $329, I'm less enthused but I'm not the ordinary Prius owner.

I have AutoEnginuity, Graham Scanner, and plan to replace my ScanGauge sold last week:
  • Graham miniscanner - able to stream into a laptop up to six of the ~50 variables for engineering studies. The format is a little funky but it can be loaded into a spreadsheet for analysis. But the unit is specific to just the NHW11 and I understand the new units will have identical software to the original, no changes, which doesn't thrill me.
  • ScanGauge II - works with all known Prius and has the ability to add 25 XGAUGE definitions for expanded functions. However, there is no data recording capability for engineering studies, a major limitation. It also requires a pig-tail cable to prevent it from spiking the Ts/Tc lines in the NHW11. Still in production with updates.
  • AutoEnginuity - works with all known Prius but only records data from one controller at a time with only a few additional, 'universal' fields. Not really designed for driver feedback or my style of engineering study, it is a diagnostic tool that follows the Toyota Techstream model. Still in production with updates.
I sold my ScanGauge to someone who has a pair of NHW11s and at least one NHW20. Near as I can tell, everything that can be seen by the Graham scanner can be displayed by the ScanGauge. The only thing missing from the ScanGauge is any sort of data recording.

Still, if someone has an NHW11, the Graham scanner is a good solution. The price is reasonable and the most important metrics are covered. The ScanGauge is a good solution for someone with multiple Prius as it can move between models. I sold mine and can pickup the replacement in a couple of days. AutoEnginuity is the diagnostic tool with extensive and growing capability but it is also the most expensive.

ps. I've reposted this note to Prius_Technical_Stuff and Toyota-Prius, Yahoo Groups.

The way I read it, the cost is $229 + shipping, with a small potential discount if parts are cheaper and demand is high. The primary requirement is that 50 people put down the $100 deposit to trigger the run. This does fit a niche between a ScanGauge and AutoEnginuity/Techstream, but it is a niche, and finding 50 people might be tough. But, it need only attract the interest of 0.01% of Gen I owners to be viable.
