Gen III Prius oil change door One of the most common complaints about Gen III is the "oil change door", the part of the engine undercover that cracks and falls apart. A TSB was issued last month T-SB-0032-11 that seems to address this, if in an oblique way. The criminal part is that warranty coverage is only 3/36, meaning that if the problem shows up only after the 4th scheduled oil change, it is not covered. We'd like to know if anyone has had theirs replaced for free under this TSB.

Hi, I hadn't heard of this but will find out in about a month. We're at 18,700 and the next service date looks to be the end of June or early July. We bought ours in May, 2009, so we're still good. Thanks, Bob Wilson

Door broken I found my oil change door broken during a trip from TX to TN. Took it in to a dealer in Franklin, TN and reluctantly they replaced the bottom engine cover. They have replaced 5 and had the part in stock. The bulletin they used was one for a distorted cover. They said Toyota would probably reject the warranty. I change my own oil and the door has only been opened twice. No info from Toyota that the door cannot be flexed. Very poor design and if Toyota will not stand behind the problem very poor service. I guess for the next oil change I will remove the entire cover. What a PITA.
