| Maine cab company +3 years of hybrids http://www.wcsh6.com/news/article/15...old-on-hybrids
. . . I remember there were programs testing Ford Escapes, Camry and Prius as cabs in New York City and San Francisco . . . and then nothing. So it is good to hear a small cab company is having hybrid success.Three and a half years ago a taxicab company in Rockland faced the same problem, and says it found the solution: hybrids. In the summer of 2007 Schooner Bay Taxi got a lot of attention around the midcoast for buying a fleet of hybrid cabs. The company chose to buy four, pale green Toyota Prius sedans. It was a gamble that new, super-efficient hybrids-more costly than the used minivans the company had been buying -- would save money in the long run. Nearly four years and hundreds of thousands of miles later, owner Chris Merritt says the gamble has paid off. . . . Bob Wilson |
