Jay, on your website it mentions key programming for Toyota coming soon. Does that include smart keys, and does that include the ability to perform a seed reset? Would the latter still require a call to Toyota to get a new seed?

Some great conversations happening between you guys..I'm quite new to such terms, but still went inside the concept, keep updating, I like to know about it moe.

Sorry about the belated response. I usually have my forum settings to send me an email when a post appears. That's not happening with this forum.
Also, the lost email random question: the three primary colors red, blue, and what? Green doesn't work. I should think that's a valid answer.
Key programming is actually in for a few car makers we haven't released them because we had to negotiate terms. I am not sure if the Toyota one is ready yet. I will know more after SEMA.
I was posting because I just finished the 10+ Prius Hybrid Controller. It's the only ECM we don't have complete. And--it's done. It took two days and I have screen captures of the vehicle at idle and running with AE and Techstream. So I know what each will look like to prevent confusion over questionable values. Each was inspected on two vehicles in both operational states. It's in there. As a aside the VIN issue plaguing the hybrids 10MY+ has been fixed by Toyota. You will require this calibration for correct operation of our tool. Without the flow control working on this ECM, you can't get complete messages. If you get a partial VIN, then you don't have the latest calibration.

All this will require Version 10 coming out in at the end of Nov 11.

Thanks

I almost bought AutoEnginuity but decided not to in the end after learning from the manufacturer that it does not support simultaneous communication with multiple EUCs. Fortunately for gen 2 Prius at least the CAN messages are well documented and so I bit the bullet, bought an OBD-USB dongle, and wrote my own program for data logging and analysis. So far so good.
I have a 2003 Prius and am RHCE V6 certified. Can I help you develop something for the 01-03 prius cars?

Will it do things like functions for brake bleeding?
I have an 03 prius and when I changed the brakes (rear still 03 and front pads/rotors changed at ~110K miles AWESOME!) I wanted to bleed the brakes. I found the procedure but needed a scan tool that could talk to the brake computer so I just did it the long was of opening the port and having someone press the pedal.

Does the AE scan tool have the ability to read everything as well as do other functions like the one needed to tell the car you are bleeding the brake lines?

~$500 isn't so bad for a tool that will allow me to diag and fix everything on my Prius and might even work on my Camry or a 2012/2013 if I buy the Prius V someday.

What is everything I need for the AE system if I wanted to order it online?

Thx,
Steve M.

Hi,

A year ago come Friday, I bought AutoEnginuity, $495. Yesterday, I used the one year, default coverage to upgrade to 9.1.1 so I have a single, OBD, recording monitor that works for both our NHW11 (2003) and ZVW30 (2010). The upgrade was painless other than I had to 'cut-and-paste' the key from the email as typing didn't seem to work.

NHW11

This provides extensive data from at least six major ECUs: engine, hybrid, battery, brake, airbag, and body. However, it only reports the data from one ECU at a time which limits the ability to combine fields from different ECUs for engineering studies. Also, preliminary data suggests a problem with MG1 torque reading may still be there.

ZVW30

It reports 12 ECUs but they do not include the engine, hybrid, nor battery ECUs. There is an 'enhanced powertrain' that has many of these fields but lacks any traction battery, inverter, or MG1/MG2 data (see attached spreadsheet.)

Summary

I'm more tolerant of AutoEnginuity than thrilled with it. For maintenance work, it looks to be OK but for engineering studies, it is weak. We have two Prius models so the $495 price is split between the two, an acceptable solution. The only alternative is 'TechStream Lite' but at $1,200-1,500, this is a little too rich for my tastes. Worse, it also looks like TechStream is not designed for multiple ECU operation needed for engineering studies but at least the data would be trustable.

The ScanGauge II has some programmable XGAUGEs so it could support both models but reprogramming the XGAUGEs makes this time consuming. Worse, ScanGauge II has no data recording capability and only displays four data fields. At least they can be from different ECUs.

So we're still stuck with flawed tools but this is better than no tool at all!

Version 10
Yes, we do the Air Bleed function. For coverage details look here: http://www.autoenginuity.com/product...ware.html#EI03

We did finally get the 10+ Prius HVECU in the program with the 10 release. Also, the 01-03 Prius did have a SubCode issue and MG sensor issue resolved with the 10 release. We know of no other missig coverag or no-working coverage. I hope that helps.

Just ordered a STO6 and Toyota enhanncements...
Jay,

Thanks for the info. I just ordered my setup today. I am REALLY hoping you guys come out with an Android App that works with the upcoming wireless module. Please let me know once the wireless add-on is available.

Since I do not really have or run windoze natively I am going to try to run the software in wine under Fedora Core first. If that does not work I'll try winXP under vmware which should work fine worst case.

Does anyone know if this HW will work with SW like PriiDash(TM)?? That runs natively in Linux so for most general things that might be GR8!

I just bought the STO6 from AutoEngenuity today along with the Toyota enhancemnents. Is there a way that your PriiDash(TM) will work on my 03 GEN I with the hardware I bought? I run 100% Linux and no windows anything since ~2005 so having natice Linux SW would be GR8!

I'm also going to try running the AE SW under wine and see how that works.

BTW: Do you do any Android development?

I know from another Prius owner in New Mexico that he helped Jay get some NHW11 time with AutoEnginuity and fix a problem with sub-code readout. You're set!

As for software, I pretty much write whatever I want for the tools I have. Lately it has been Perl for some quick and dirties. Before that, some MSP430, microcontroller code. My favorite time was as a VAX/VMS system programmer writing device drivers and IBM mainframe system programmer (aka., OS MVS/HASP/OS MVT.)
