I went out to my car tonight, turned the key over, and the car started up. I had to think about it for a sec, but something was different. Wait, was that the traditional starter that I heard? Did the car just crank up with the starter motor and not the IMA motor? Then I noticed them... The MIL, IMA, and the battery indicator lamps were all lit up on the dash. WTF? I shut the car down and restarted. This time it started with the IMA motor. With my trusty Scangauge in the center console, I pulled it out and plugged it in. I had codes P15A5 and P0000 stored.
Looking online, a few Civic hybrids have had a problem with P15A5 and P0A3F, but I haven't found anyone else with the combination I received. The Civic guys are finding that P15A5 is related to the Motor Current Sensor Circuit. Upon further searching, I found a TSB related to my year and model.
Technical Service Bulletin 06-021 is saying I just need a software update because "the IMA motor control software incorrectly interprets the position of the IMA motor rotor." Hopefully that's all that's wrong.
I'll take the car in tomorrow and see if the local dealer can work me into their schedule. I'm about 2,700 miles away from home. I hope this doesn't turn into a big deal.
