Hi and the case for Hypermiling
Contrary to what was promised, not a friendly atmosphere to discuss hypermling.

Chuck, thanks for the fantastic introduction to hypermiling.

It's important that we focus on the positive—that is, the enormous benefits that can be harnessed by being energy-conscious any way we know how. We're all here because we believe there are alternatives to the present way we conduct transportation, and whether we drive hybrids, hypermile or both, the green driving movement is here to stay.

It's great to have you here at myHybridCar.com. Welcome, and enjoy.

I realize Wayne's intensity can be taken the wrong way, but it's a fallacy to say all hypermilers take it to the degree Wayne does.
Again, not every hypermiler takes it to the extent of Wayne Gerdes.

Chuck
So even you, Chuck, a self proclaimed Wayne "Groupie" admit that Wayne takes things a deegre or two too far.

One thing occurs to me.... If Wayne traveled with an on duty police officer in the passenger seat vs. someone he is desperately hoping to impress with the slight chance someone will give him praise, would he drive the same? My bet is on no. I would venture a guess he'd still beat EPA mileage... as any of us can... but only by slightly.

If Wayne changes his driving style with a police officer in the passenger seat, does that not indicate wrongdoing?
I'm just asking Wayne not to be hypocritical. He says to others "Don't you slow down when you see a cop?" Well, yes.
I'll bet you 10:1 odds, Wayne will change his style in the presence of a cop also. Likely, for the better.

I've found over nearly three years, most hypermiler-bashers are speeders. Not all, but a definite corrolation.
Good observation, and one I can agree with.

I've found some hypermilers to be dangerous drivers. Not all, but a definate corrolation mind you.
Take one-thrid of what Wayne preaches and does in practice, and you've got a safe driver saving gas who can meld with society. I put myself in this catagory.

Wayne has some good advice. It's not all crazy or "extreeme".
But if some of it wasn't, we wouldn't be talking about him, and he wouldn't have nearly the publicity, now would he?

The rules here are clear and unambiguous but things are different at AutoWeek. Regardless, I have no problem with taking out my references to the AutoWeek article.

Your turn, Chuck.

Bob- In the article by Jeongwoo Lee and Douglas J. Nelson how many miles did they test PnG for?
If you, me, they, do a test for a long enough number of miles ( 50 to 100 miles ) then the battery SOC becomes insignificant, dare I say, irrelevant. The pack SOC will either go up-down-up-down or, reach a low point, and maintain there. Regardless, it will reach stasis after some number of miles.

In my own tests, I can get 10% higher FE with PnG vs. steady speed driving. But, as you know, conditions have to be right for it. And the work involved, is sometimes not worth an extra 10%. But it's fun to experiment.

Perhaps the best resolution is if Jason just deletes this weekend's posts referring to AutoWeek - HybridDriver also refered to it.

How's that?
When I'm in Jason's house, I follow Jason's rules. For me, it is a sign of respect to clean up one's own mess. If there are any left over 'dust bunnies,' Jason or a PM may be enough. But this isn't my call.

To reply like this before Jason has a chance to respond does not exactly look sincere, evenhanded, or conciliatory..

Besides, what objection do you have of Jason simply removing all that pertaining to AutoWeek amongst four members by Monday?

It's exactly what I'd do as a moderator to be completely fair.
No problem ... sending a private note to Jason and a copy to you:

The irony is we agree "firebombs continue to be thrown at AutoWeek":

There is an old joke about the time Oklahoma State University went to play Oklahoma University in Norman. The OU fans were throwing firecrackers at the OSU fans who were picking them up, lighting the fuses and throwing them back. I went to OSU.
