AKRON, Ohio, Aug. 18 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- In an impressive display of fuel economy, two drivers from Australia have broken the "48 Contiguous U.S. States Fuel Economy Guinness World Record," driving a car equipped with Goodyear Assurance Fuel Max tires. This three-week, 9,000+ mile drive through all 48 contiguous states in the U.S., showcased the potential fuel savings from the breakthrough fuel-efficient tread compound found in the new tires.

The article descibes a diesel economey effort. However, its worth posting here as it looks like the initial claims for the Fuel Max tire are holding up according to the early implementers. According to the article, they were also using Shell for fuel, another thing we observe to be the case on a lot of hybrid sites.

Yes, they do. Tire Rack has a comparison of the best LRR tires, and the Fuel Max was in the top 4, and was the ONLY one with a tread mileage guarantee (65,000). However, if fuel economy is the primary basis of the decision, then the Michelin Energy Saver A/S is the champ, with the Bridgestone Ecopia EP100 a close second. On tire life, the Michelin outperforms the Bridgestone in most reports. However, both of these tires are 10-12 dollars more each than the Fuel Max. The other tire that hung with these four in the report is the Yokohama dB Super E-Spec, but its price was a LOT higher than the other three.
