When California mandated a certain percentage of electric vehicles in the 1990s, the Toyota built, RAV4 joined the GM EV1 and several others. But GM crushed everyone of theirs, "Who Killed the Electric Car," but Toyota let a few RAV4s continue in private ownership. Now Toyota and Tesla are in a joint venture, renewing the electric RAV4s.
Woodstock, Ontario (August 5, 2011)—Toyota and Tesla Motors, Inc. (Tesla) confirmed today that their jointly-developed RAV4 electric vehicle will be built at Toyota Motor Manufacturing Canada, Inc. (TMMC) in Woodstock, Ontario beginning in 2012.
